文物保存展柜是保护文物的基本单元, 也是文物保护技术最重要的体现。目前展柜的材料种类主要有铝、 铁、 铜、 不锈钢、 玻璃、 合金、 竹、 木和石质等。
展柜所用材料必须对文物不造成损害,许多看起来适合制作展柜的材料都有可能对博物馆保存文物产生致命的危害。 由于展柜和文物宜接或间接接触, 如果展柜所用材料含有氯、 硫或其它酸性成分, 势必会对文物造成损害。
玻璃是较为安全的文物展柜展柜制作材料,也是较好的文物展柜材料。 具有抗刮划、 不透气和便于贴附防紫外线薄膜的特点, 选择玻璃种类时应考患玻璃不应含有酸性等有害气体。

在木材展柜制作中, 为提高本材的吸、 放湿性能, 使展柜内湿度环境更为稳定, 可以利用化学溶液来增加木材的亲水性。 此外, 开槽、 钻孔增加吸湿面积或使用横切面提高吸湿速率, 都可以改善柜内湿度环境。

In the production of wood showcase, in order to improve the moisture absorption and release performance of this material and make the humidity environment in the showcase more stable, chemical solution can be used to increase the hydrophilicity of wood. In addition, the humidity environment in the cabinet can be improved by slotting and drilling to increase the moisture absorption area or using the cross section to improve the moisture absorption rate.
